Radial Pressure Wave RPW therapy

Radial Pressure Wave (RPW) Therapy in Pembroke Pines & Plantation

A helping hand for your recovery. Radial Pressure Wave (RPW) therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic pressure waves to create oscillations in tissue, helping reduce pain and support healing in less time and with less effort. At Daniel Bell, DPM - Foot & Ankle Institute, Daniel Bell, DPM uses RPW therapy to treat heel, Achilles, ankle, and lower leg pain without surgery or medication.

What Is Radial Pressure Wave Therapy?

RPW therapy delivers acoustic pressure waves that spread outward, or radially, from the applicator into the treatment area. These waves promote blood flow, activate connective tissue, and help reduce muscle pain, aiding in the treatment of trigger points, tendinitis, and other musculoskeletal conditions of the foot and ankle. Because radial waves cover a wider area than focused waves, RPW is especially effective for treating larger regions of muscle and tendon pain at once.

What Areas Can RPW Treat?

Benefits of RPW Therapy

  • Short treatment time of about 10 minutes
  • Treats large areas at once
  • Non-invasive, with no known significant adverse effects
  • Muscle massage with a vibrating applicator
  • Results in as few as 4–6 treatments
  • A non-surgical alternative to medication

RPW Therapy vs. Shockwave Therapy

Both treatments use acoustic energy to stimulate healing. Focused shockwave therapy concentrates energy deep into a specific point, while RPW spreads energy across a broader, more superficial area. Dr. Bell will recommend the option, or combination, that best fits your condition.

What to Expect

What Does RPW Feel Like?

Patients may notice soreness and a thumping sensation when the treatment head passes over dysfunctional tissue, with very little discomfort over healthy tissue. The level of discomfort depends on the area treated, the settings used, and the severity of the condition. Minor soreness around the treated area afterward is not uncommon.

How Long Do Treatments Last?

About 10 minutes per session.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Generally 4–6 treatments. The exact number is determined based on your results and your clinician’s discretion.

What Do Patients Say?

“How is this even possible after only one treatment, I can’t believe how good I feel and how much motion I have. I have been in therapy for months, had injections, been on medication for pain and now I feel great with one treatment of this machine. Why doesn’t everyone have this in the clinic?”
— Diane, patient

“I canceled the MRI and the surgical consult and my pain level is almost non-existent, this thing has been amazing. I am 90% back to work already.”
— Joe, patient

Each patient testimonial relates one individual’s response to treatment. Responses to treatment can and do vary; results are not guaranteed and individual results may vary.
